The Culver City Police Department's mid-year report (shared at the 10/14/24 Council meeting) makes it clear: when we prioritize funding, staffing, training, and respect for our police force, we live in a city with lower crime rates and faster response times.
And yes, the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) led to felony arrests and removed guns from our streets. Police reported that ALPRs helped apprehend violent criminals with assault weapons during traffic stops.
From January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023:
- Property crime down 9.1%
- Thefts down 9.4%
- Motor vehicle theft down 19.4%
- Violent crime down 6.8%
- Simple assault down 3.8%
- Aggravated assault down 17%
- Robberies down 6.7%
- Emergency response time: 3:40 minutes
- Violent crime clearance rate: 70% vs 45% nationally
- Property crime clearance rate: 28% vs 11% nationally
This is great news. We can continue this positive trend by electing the right council.
